Trucking Nation Podcast: 8. State Associations, Flying Trucks, & Trucker Fitness

How are you Trucking Nation?

January has been just an exciting month in the Trucking Industry and this week was one of the best. So, of course, I had to bottle up all the good stuff to talk about and record it on a nice neat Podcast 😉
Before I get started, make sure you start your free trial of TruckLogics.com. It is the best program available for you to manage your entire trucking business, where ever the road takes you. TruckLogics is easy to use and provides every feature you could ever need to keep your business running nice and smooth.

Here’s The Overview

I had to mention the State of the Union Address and offer a different perspective of the event. There was a lot going on during the broadcast that I just had to bring up real quick. Then I move into some more government type topics including – State Associations and what they can do for you. Here are all the links mentioned in this segment of the podcast:
ExpressTaxFilings.com – 1099s & W-2s are due to contractors/employees by the end of January and ExpressTaxFilings provides everything you need to get them out on time.
What’s Happening In Your World
For the 2nd segment of the show, I talk all about some really amazing things happening in the industry. First was Mike Ryan’s new world jump record in a semi-truck + trailer. This did happen a month or so ago and I’m kicking myself I didn’t know about this sooner.

The jump record, set by Mike Ryan, is 83ft 7in

Now that is with a truck plus the trailer, and oh did I not mention there was a Formula 1 racing car driving under him when he went flying through the air? Amazing! The stunt was for a viral marketing campaign by EMC and Lotus F1 Team & Hopkins Motorsport and I must say it was awesome.

This stunt was just a joy to watch, and they have a Making Of.. video that includes like 20 different camera angles of the stunt so you don’t miss any of the high flying action. I’m just going to stop hyping it up and let you actually see what I mean:
Highway Hank Donates Truck To Trucking Museum
Next was a topic very close to my heart: Highway Hank donates his 1981 KW to the Iowa-80
trucking museum. I saw the article on OverdriveOnline and it just took me back to when I was just itty bitty and my grandpa took me to see a truck show and Highway Hank was there with that truck. I have a picture somewhere and I’m going to try my hardest to find it. It was just a special memory of my childhood, and now not only myself, but everyone can visit Hanks famous truck and relive old memories or create new ones of their own.
Volvo Launches 2nd Season of “Welcome To My Cab”
There are a few entertainment topics to mention. Volvo has launched, the 2nd season of “Welcome To My Cab”. The first episode is up on YouTube and it features a colorful character who’s truck is as bright as his personality. Tim Baumgartner is featured in the first show and is the proud owner of the “Freedom Flyer” – one gorgeous bright yellow truck painted with the heart and soul of his patriotism. I really like this series because it gives you a chance to see all the cool stuff inside and the history of the truck.
I had to mention some IFTA Deadline Reminders. If you need to file your 4th Quarter IFTA, go to ExpressIFTA.com and have it done quick, fast, and in a hurry.
Trucker Fitness
The final segment of the show was dedicated to trucker health and fitness. Getting quality rest is important to keep your mental game strong. If you are having trouble sleeping because of the noise around you, try listening to nature sounds. I know it might not sound like it would work, but I’m telling you it will really make a difference and help you relax. Here is a link to the CDLlife review of the Rain, Rain App I mentioned in the podcast.
For one of the best resources for custom trucker workouts and meal ideas, I recommend checking out HealthyTrucker.net. There are videos on how to use your truck to help you work out, healthy meals you can cook in the cab, and great advice on how to stay healthy on the road. It is just an amazing place to go to find workouts and meals that are customized for a trucker.
I really enjoyed this episode and I want to thank you so much for listening. Every show is a surprise of topics and issues, so you never know what’s going to happen – a lot like the trucking industry. Again, thank you so very much for joining me this week, Trucking Nation. Remember you get what you give in this world, so try to be kind and enjoy the ride. Talk to you soon – Misty Noel
