Trucking News Update – May

There’s always something new happening in Trucking Nation – especially these days. With technological innovations, industry crises, and elections happening all around us, it’s no surprise that some of our trucker friends might miss the big headlines.

So we’re here to share with you some of the more interesting things happening in our field.

Ex-Google Employee Makes Self Driving Trucks

We know you’re tired of hearing about self-driving trucks, but the industry still has to contend with this ever-present threat. As it turns out, 4 former Google employees have started a company called Otto, with the main goal of converting existing rigs into self-driving robotic rigs.

Once again, truckers will still exist even in the worst-case scenario, because sometimes they’ll need a pair of human hands to take care of the trickier maneuvers.

Truckers Fighting Human Trafficking

Thanks to the dedicated work of truckers against trafficking, more than 214,000 trucking employees have been trained to spot the warning signs of human trafficking.

Around 1,371 calls were placed to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center’s hotline, allowing for 425 likely human-trafficking cases to be identified, covering 744 victims, including 249 minors.

Stay vigilant, Truckers Against Trafficking.
