Once your form is complete your 2290 will be transmitted directly to the IRS once they start accepting forms for the current 2017 Heavy Vehicle Use Tax season on July 1st.
When the season opens and your form is transmitted directly to the IRS you’ll receive a copy of your 2290 Schedule 1 via email, as soon as the IRS stamps it. You can also elect to receive your stamped Schedule 1 via text, fax, or postal mail, to send it to your carrier or whoever needs a copy.
As we mentioned above, the filing process is extremely easy. So easy that you don’t even need a computer to file. Download the ExpressTruckTax app to your smartphone or tablet to file at any time, even while you’re out on the road.
You begin by entering your basic business information such as your business name, address, and EIN (Employer Identification Number). A sole proprietor can use their name and home address, but you can’t use your SSN in place of your EIN. If you don’t have an EIN you can apply for one with the IRS online.
Then you’ll enter the following information for your qualifying vehicles such as their VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) and taxable gross weight. Be sure to include your suspended vehicles, meaning vehicles with less than 5,000 miles for the current tax season or 7,500 miles or less for agricultural vehicles.
The next step involves relaxing as ExpressTruckTax calculates the amount of Heavy Vehicle Use Tax you owe for you. Then you can pay the IRS through direct debit, electronic funds withdrawal, EFTPS, check or money order.
