The deadline to report IFTA for the third quarter has officially passed. You can still generate IFTA reports for the third quarter or previous quarters and file them with your base jurisdiction. Any form filed after its due date will be subject to a late fee. We are officially in the fourth quarter of 2022 and while you cannot yet generate your 4th quarter IFTA report, you can get started entering the data for it. This is especially important because it allows you to get ahead of the game and put your information in now and then click “generate” in January.
IFTA is an agreement made between the 48 contiguous United States and 10 of the Canadian provinces. It has to be reported by drivers of vehicles with the following characteristics: they weigh 26,000 pounds or more, have three or more axles, and travel through two or more jurisdictions. These drivers must then keep track of the miles traveled and amount of fuel purchased in each jurisdiction and then report it to their base jurisdiction. That jurisdiction will then distribute the tax amount owed to each jurisdiction fuel was purchased in.
