How to Stay Healthy on the Road?

Truckers, it’s not always easy to stay healthy when you’re on the road, is it? The urge to pull over at a truck stop, grab a burger, fries, and a large Coke, and sit back is just too appealing. STOP!

We know that making healthy choices on the road is tough, especially when the big golden arches of McDonalds call to you. So to help you out, we have some ideas and recipes, as well as tips on how you can eat healthy while you’re out on the open road.

Eating Healthy Fast Food

Sometimes it’s inevitable, you’ve got to have a little fast food. But just because you’ve stopped for fast food doesn’t mean you can’t eat healthily. When at a fast food establishment, do some research before you just pick a number. There are plenty of healthy options; you just have to look. Take these for example! Here are some nutritional facts you can find at two of the most famous fast food restaurants that make for a healthier meal.

Tips to Keep Healthy

Choosing the right types of food to eat while on the road is a great first start, but there’s more you have to do.

1. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep (along with nutrients) is one of the most important things your body needs. Sleeping helps memory, reaction time, and learning. Think about it. When you’re sleepy, you don’t react to certain events as you usually would, and it takes you a little longer to memorize the route or to read a sign, right? So to help yourself stay healthy (and safe) on the road pull over and get some rest.

2. Water, Water, Water

It’s hard to stay hydrated with the right types of liquids when you’re driving for long hours. An energy drink or coffee sounds way more appealing than a cup of water. Drinking water is linked to weight loss and health. But hold onto your seats when I say this, you guys are going to have to drink between 9 and 13 cups of water a day. It’s a lot, but it’s what your body needs!

3. Walk, Jog, Run

In addition to water, eating right, and sleeping, you’re going to have to get out of your truck every once in awhile and get moving. Exercise does much more than just controlling weight loss; it actually helps to strengthen your bones, muscles, and reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease.
