Trucking Nation Podcast: 16. MATS, IFTA Deadline, & Mental Fitness

Hi Friends! It's a whole new show this week and I know you will enjoy it. MATS is happening this week and the TruckLogics team is there. IFTA is coming up and March Madness finals are here; so much going on. Now of course I talk about some fitness, but this week we are focusing on the mental aspect of fitness. For a bit of fun I throw in some real zombie apocalypse applications for your new skills that you picked up to sharpen your mental game. It's time to get positive truckers, so hit that PLAY button!

TruckLogics At MATS 2015
Anyone who is anyone in trucking makes an appearance at MATS and TruckLogics is no exception. The team made it out to MATS and even did a great promo video that is guaranteed to make you laugh. You just have to watch it, click re-play and watch it again!

IFTA Deadline
1st Quarter IFTA Filing starts April 1st and the deadline is April 30th. You can know exactly what you will owe with the brand new IFTA Fuel Tax Calculator App - available on App Store & Google Play. It's free to download and you don't have to create an account or anything, you just click on it and start entering your mileage. It's a great way to anticipate your IFTA expenses.

You can easily generate you IFTA return at They have made the whole process simple and have provided IFTA information for each state. If you don't want to deal with the hassle of IFTA filing, give Truck Services of North America a call and they can take care of everything for you.

Mental Fitness
How are you doing, trucking nation? Really, are you keeping your mental game strong? After a long day's work it is easy to just sit back and turn on the tv, but you could be doing something to strengthen your mental focus and learn a new skill that could benefit you in a zombie apocalypse. Now I don't actually think that would happen, but it's interesting to think about. These suggestions might sound childish, but what's life without whimsy. You can build a replica of your truck out of Legos, learn to sew, solve a Rubix cube, learn origami, and so much more. Think of something to do that doesn't involve technology. I think our brains just need a break from all the gadgets.

Thank you so much for listening and I hope you enjoyed this week's show. Stop on by the Trucking Nation Facebook page for a visit and share some pictures of your travels. I love seeing all the places you get to go. I'm on Twitter too! Have a great weekend Trucking Nation, and remember you get what you give in this world, so try to be kind and enjoy the ride. I'll talk to you soon - Misty Noel.

Experience TruckLogics' New LTL Feature

We’re back, Trucking Nation, rolling out an all new feature!

By popular request, we’ve added LTL to TruckLogics! For just a couple dollars more per month, you can add LTL to your subscription and supercharge your account.

By adding LTL, you’ll save yourself time and experience a multitude of benefits.

Benefits of LTL

What will subscribing to the LTL Feature do for you? A whole lot!

  • Instead of sending multiple dispatches for each of your LTL loads, send just one to your driver.
  • Organize the trip with ease by dragging and dropping the stops into the order you prefer.
  • Use the ProMiles add-on along with LTL to create the optimal route.
  • Send Check Call updates to each of the loads’ recipients, either from the full site or the free app.
  • Create professional-looking invoices with just a few clicks, a separate one for each order.

Dispatching: One Is All You Need!

When entering a new order, you’ll now be prompted to select whether the order is LTL (Less than Truckload) or FTL (Full Truckload). You’ll then enter the order details as usual, like the shipper, consignee, pick-up, and drop-off dates.

Once all of the LTL orders you’d like to include in the trip have been saved, it’s time to create a dispatch!

1. Create a new dispatch as usual, and add one of the LTL loads.

2. At the very top of the Dispatch Board, you’ll see a section: Orders to Include in the Dispatch. In this section, click Add New Order, and choose whether to add an existing order, or add a quick order, which means you can quickly create a basic order form if you’re pressed for time.

3. Repeat until all LTL loads have been added to the dispatch.

Once all of the LTL orders have been added, it’s time to assign the driver & equipment to the trip, and then optimize your route.

Routing: Prioritize & Optimize

You may not have added the trip stops in order, or perhaps you’d like to add additional stops for refueling. Either way, you can always reorganize the trip from the Routing Tab of the Dispatch.

Simply drag and drop the stops into the order you prefer. Or press the orange + button to add an additional Routing Stop.

After saving the route, your new total miles will be calculated automatically with ProMiles, and the most efficient route will be available to you from the Maps tab.

Invoicing: Effortless & Professional

Once your LTL orders have been dispatched, and the trip is underway, you can easily create accurate, professional-looking invoices for each separate order.

Simply head back to the Summary tab of the Dispatch board, and select +Create Invoice. Then choose the invoice due date, and all of the shipper and consignee details will already be entered for you, as well as each driver and trip expense relevant to the order.

You can also edit these details one last time, and add a Memo or Note to the Customer. Finally, choose whether to print, email, or fax the invoice, and then press Generate to save.

Repeat this process for each LTL on the dispatch. All in all, it should only take a few minutes, since all of the order details will already be present on the invoice.

How Do I Get It?

By subscribing to the new LTL feature, you’ll allow your business more flexibility and truly get the most out of your TruckLogics account membership.

If you already have an account, head to Settings > Subscription > LTL to include this in your monthly billing. Or if you’re new to TruckLogics, sign up for a free 30 day trial, and our LTL feature will be included for you to try out!

Sign up today with promocode MARCH15, and start experiencing a smarter business management solution today.

Oh, and one last thing before you go. Our TruckLogics team is at the Mid-America Trucking Show RIGHT NOW! If you’re one of the thousands of truckers or trucking enthusiasts Louisville-bound this week, then be sure to stop by our Booth 66121 to grab some free swag and say hello!

You’ll also have a chance to meet our Product Manager, Bryan, and his pride and joy, Mean Green!

MATS is also a great opportunity to give us your feedback on TruckLogics and encourage us to add new, helpful features like LTL. When you speak, we listen! So let your voice be heard.

We’ll see you at MATS!

Trucking Nation Podcast: 15. Tracking Mileage, IFTA, & Meal Prepping

Hi friends! I have a brand new show for you this week with brand new segments; you know I can't ever stick to the same routine for long. With March winding down, I have some great tips to get you prepared for April tax deadlines and I wanted to take a few moments to talk about tracking your mileage. Don't forget to contact the TruckLogics team to learn how TruckLogics can revolutionize your business management. It's time to start the show, hit that PLAY button...

Here's The Rundown
Tracking Your Mileage
There is a lot of different ways to track your mileage and the popular option is to write down, then transfer it into a trip sheet and not worry about it until it is time to report your miles. If you change just one step in that process, you can know the mileage difference from last week to now, the fuel difference, and look at an expense report from the previous month, week or day. Cool, right? All you would have to change is instead of transferring your miles to paper trip sheet or excel file, you can simply enter them into a digital trip sheet in your TruckLogics account - and there's an app so you can do it on the road. Here is a great blog from TruckLogics that a bit more information - TruckLogics Mileage Tracking: Save Time with One-Click Trip Sheets & Reports.

IFTA Deadline
Your 1st Quarter IFTA deadline is coming up! April is just full of great tax deadlines - said no one ever. To make your life easier, ExpressIFTA provides everything you need to generate your IFTA return. You can even find every state's IFTA requirements. If you don't want to deal with the hassle of IFTA filing anymore, give Truck Services of North America a call. They can handle all of your IFTA filing, trip permits, authorities, registrations, and so much more. And they do it all over the phone.

Meal Prepping
How are doing on your healthy eating goals? It's understandable if you fall off the wagon for a bit, but it's time to get back on it. A great way to help you stick to your healthy goals is to prep your meals before you head out on the road. You want to prep meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. It's really easy and takes the guess work out of your meals. Meal prepping is also the perfect way to keep your portions in check; a single portion is about the size of your palm. Do leave a meal or two open to enjoy whatever you desire so you don't get bored of eating prepared meals.

Thank you so much for listening! Stop on by the Trucking Nation Facebook page for a visit and share some pictures of your travels. I love seeing all the places you get to go. I'm on Twitter too! Have a great weekend Trucking Nation, and remember you get what you give in this world, so try to be kind and enjoy the ride. I'll talk to you soon - Misty Noel

Stay Connected with TruckLogics: The Perfect Solution for You & Your Family Bookkeeper

Logging an odometer reading with one hand while holding the wheel with another is certainly not the safest way to drive an 18 wheeler. (Hands must stay at 10 and 2!)

That’s why many drivers and owner-operators turn to their spouses or close family members to keep their books for them.

With TruckLogics, you’re free to do just that!
Not only is TruckLogics a complete business management solution, but it’s also completely cloud-based. What does that mean for you?

1. You, and your family, can manage your entire trucking business from a single login. There’s no need to buy multiple “discs” or licenses. Simply login wherever you are, from any device, and start managing.

2. Both of you using the same program will simplify day-to-day recordkeeping and streamline communication. While your family member can use the full TruckLogics site, you can use our free iOS or Android app on the road to update information and keep in touch.

Here’s what our full site and companion app can do for you and your family member:

  • Update Check Calls: From the app, you can update the status of your trip with just a few clicks. Notify your home base of any delays or detours, or when you’re homeward bound.

  • Record Fuel Purchases: With the Fuel Up tool, it’s easy to upload fueling info every time you refill. Plus you can capture the receipt so it’s securely saved for your records.

  • Log Expenses: All other expenses can be updated in real-time through the app. Whether it’s a repair fee or toll charge, it only takes seconds to upload the data. This information will then sync with your Chart of Accounts, so your bookkeeper back home will know where your bottom line stands at all times.

And that’s just what you can do with the app. Imagine everything else you can do with the full site!

From, your family member can:

  • Send Invoices & Record Income: Create a professional looking invoice instantly, and send it directly to your client. Receive reminders as the payment due date approaches, and once the payment is received, you can quickly log it in your Chart of Accounts.

  • Run Profit & Loss Reports: Each month and quarter, you can run a detailed report on your financials, so both you and your family member have a clear picture on where your money is coming from and going to.

  • Generate IFTA Reports: If you keep your Trip Sheets in TruckLogics, then at the end of each quarter, you can generate a state-specific IFTA return based on that data. That’s right. No tax calculations, no data entry, no boring tax forms. Just a return that’s ready to be printed and mailed.

  • Schedule Maintenance Tasks: You’ll never forget an oil change again! Your family member can schedule what maintenance task are required for your truck & trailer, and how often these tasks need to be performed. Based on your odometer reading, or the length of time passing, TruckLogics will then remind you of all upcoming maintenance tasks, and serve as a permanent record of your compliance. It’s never been so easy to remain safe and compliant.

Access to all of these features costs just $4.95 a month for owner-operators. It’s hard to believe, but totally true! Your monthly subscription gives you, and an unlimited number of family members, access to all of this and more. But most of all, it gives you freedom.

Between trip sheets, IFTA reports, and expense tracking, being an owner-operator is two jobs in one! But with TruckLogics, you’ll be free to focus on the road again.

Try it on us. Use promocode MARCH15, and we’ll give you 30 days to see how you like it. Once you get a taste of TruckLogics, we’re confident that you and your family will be in it for the long haul!

Trucking Nation Podcast: 14. WTA, Trucker Tax Service Interview, & New Life Goals

Hi Friends! How are you Trucking Nation? I do hope you are having a wonderful day and it is about to get a lot better. I have a great show for you this week; including a special interview with Trucker Tax Service. Don't forget to contact the TruckLogics Team to find out how you can manage your entire trucking business while on the road. There is a lot going on in the trucking industry right now, so hit that play button and let's start the show.

Here's The Rundown...

Interesting News
The FMCSA may have a new boss by the end of the month. Wait. What? I don't know the full details, but you know something happened and new candidates for the position are being interviewed.

Trucking Nation Company of the Week
This week's Company of the Week proudly goes to Trucker Tax Service! Founder and CEO of Trucker Tax Service, Jim O'Donnell, was kind enough to join me for an interview and a nice important chat about trucker taxes. Trucker Tax Service wants to spread the word about truckers needing a professional tax preparer that specializes in the trucking industry. Taxes for truckers can be complicated and end up costing a driver greatly if not done correctly. They do everything over the phone and want to help you get every deduction you deserve. Give them a call at 888.799.1099 to see what they can do for you.

Green Cleaning
It's probably about time to give your truck a good cleaning. Before you get to scrubbing, do you know what's in your cleaner? A lot, and I mean a lot, of cleaners have extremely harmful chemicals in them that can affect your breathing and irritate your skin and eyes. This time 'round, try cleaning your truck with green cleaning products. You probably even have all you need already. If you have some vinegar and baking soda, you're all set for your first green cleaning adventure. I give you a great recipe for my favorite vinegar cleaner and some new ways to use baking soda in the podcast.

Trucker Fitness Tip
How's your motivation holding up for working out regularly? Is it slacking a little bit? I have a great tip to get your motivation back up and get you excited to work out. Oh yes, such a thing exist. It might be a little unconventional but Tony Horton's YouTube channel is the best motivational tool I have found in a long time. He's the P90X guy and you can watch him for free and get amazing insight into hundreds of workouts and meals. What was most surprising was how entertaining he is. I'm never bored when following him during his workouts. Most of the workouts are easily adaptable for truckers.

Bucket List
You ever feel like you need to do a bit of soul searching? I was talking to a friend who is an OTR driver and somehow our conversation got on the subject of What's Life All About? I asked her what was on her bucket list and she told me she didn't have. If you feel a bit lost in this world, make a Buck List with all the things you want to do before you, well, kick the bucket. It gives you personal goals to work for and provides that extra bit of motivation to find your happiness in life.

Thank you so much Trucking Nation for clicking that play button and listening to the show this week. I enjoyed the opportunity to interview Jim O'Donnell from Trucker Tax Service and learned a lot about taxes for truckers. Be sure to stop on by the Trucking Nation Podcast Facebook page and share a few positive words and don't forget to hit that Like Button. You keep us going Truckers, thank you for all that you do. Remember you get what you give in this world, so try to be kind and enjoy the ride. I will talk to y'all soon! - Misty Noel.

TruckLogics Mileage Tracking: Save Time with One-Click Trip Sheets & Reports

How do you track your mileage?

Do you scribble it into a notebook? Onto a trip sheet template? Do you type it into an Excel Spreadsheet? Or do you have a GPS that saves the data for you? No matter how you do it, there’s an easier way up ahead.
And here it comes. TruckLogics’ Trip Sheet Feature and Reports Feature work together to like a pair of superheroes to make mileage tracking so smooth, it’s like you aren’t even doing it at all.

The TruckLogics Trip Sheets feature beats even a GPS when it comes to ease of use and time saved. Why? Because TruckLogics not only makes trip sheets easy, but it turns those trip sheets into Profit/Loss reports and IFTA reports, giving you the data you need to do business like the pro that you are.

And you get it all without breaking a sweat.

Trip Sheets Simplified

After dispatching your load, you can conveniently create a trip sheet from that same screen. Just head to the Trip Sheets tab in the Dispatch Board, and then choose one of two ways to input your data:

1. Manual Entry or 2. ProMiles

To manually record your miles, simply enter the date of the trip, odometer reading, highways used, and gallons of fuel purchased. Then calculate the total miles of the trip, mark whether the miles are loaded or empty, and denote any toll mileage.

To expedite this process, use ProMiles to complete your Trip Sheets! Simply tick the box "Enter Trip Sheet Using ProMiles." With the ProMiles add-on, Trip Sheets complete themselves. Just add the date of the trip and any fuel purchases. ProMiles takes care of the rest. It knows which roads are toll roads, and it will even record your empty miles on the trip back automatically!

Automatic Reports

Whether you complete your trip sheets manually or with ProMiles, you’ll still reap the benefits of our Reports feature–that magical place where all of your trip sheets are converted into helpful data.

From within the Reports feature, you can generate monthly and quarterly Profit/Loss reports by clicking a single button. This report will compile your total miles, as well as a loaded/empty breakdown.

Standing out amongst all of the other helpful reports you can run with TruckLogics, the IFTA Fuel Tax Summary Report shines bright, providing a breakdown of your total miles run in the quarter, amount of fuel purchased, and the tax owed to your base jurisdiction.

The figures in this report can be used to fill in your IFTA return, or if that sounds like too much work still, then just head over to the IFTA feature to have TruckLogics generate a completed, state-specific return for you!

That’s just one of the many benefits of keeping all of your business data in a single, cloud-based program. There’s no need to enter your trip data in one place and move that data somewhere else to create a financial report, and then somewhere else again to create your IFTA returns each quarter. And there’s no need to perform any calculations yourself, which personally, is my favorite thing about TruckLogics.

If you’re new to TruckLogics and need help utilizing all of its awesome features, then set up a free live tutorial with our Support Crew! Call 704.234.6946 and find a time convenient for you so that you can get the most out of the program.

Not a TruckLogics user yet? That’s okay too because we offer Free 30 Day Trials. There’s no credit card needed to sign up and no risk. Just 30 days of business management bliss, and the time you need to see just how much TruckLogics can do for your business.

Sign up now with promocode MARCH15 to get started today.

Trucking Nation Podcast: 13. Prime, OOIDA, & New Fitness Goals

We made it to lucky number 13! How are you Trucking Nation? Hopefully you're excited for warmer weather and the latest Trucking Nation Podcast with your overly-peppy hostess - Misty Noel. All brought to you by For all the new listeners, I would like to welcome you and I'm so glad your joining me today for an exciting new podcast. I have a lot to talk about, so I won't keep you waiting. Hit that play button and enjoy the show!

Here's The Rundown
New Technology Being Adapted for the Trucking Industry
I read a lot of news - joys of a podcaster - and came across some very interesting articles about trucking companies using the Uber Model. Color me intrigued. Before I did the research, I was talking with some friends about the idea and it was a mixed bag on whether or not it would work. So I did some digging and actually the Uber Model could be a major game changer for local shipping. One company in particular, Cargomatic, has implemented this model and I'm really interested into seeing how they grow and expand.

Company of the Week
Prime Inc. is the Trucking Nation Company of the Week! They have adapted to the new technical age we have found ourselves in by integrating the latest technology available for their drivers. Prime Inc. also takes great pride in providing the best and safest equipment for their drivers. I'm a big fan of their band - The Brothers Roberson - and the song Why I Do This. Check out the video, it's amazing.

Association of the Week
Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association is the Trucking Nation Association of the Week! There are a lot of great things that can be said about his association. They fight for the rights of truckers and provide more benefits than you could ever imagine.

Tips To Getting Back On Track With Your Fitness Goals
Have you gotten off track with your fitness goals? Well my dear, you're not the only one. I was really slacking on fitness goals in February. I got back in gear and now I'm excited every morning to get in a workout and eat colorful food. I feel better too. If you want to get back on the road to a healthier lifestyle, take baby steps. Here are some great tips:
  • Switch out one of your cups of coffee for tea. If you drink black coffee, then you should really give black tea a go. They come in tons of flavors and are really strong and bold. Probably very close to your personality :)
  • Put lemons in your water to give it some flavor and to help detox your system. If you cut up a lemon and put into your water bottle, or water jug, you will be amazed at how great you feel. A glass of lemon water in the morning is a great start to the day. Lemon water is just a great way to jazz up boring old water and it has tons of health benefits. Read about them here - The Natural Wellness Benefits of Lemons.
  • Get a good morning stretch in before you head out on the road. Stretching is a great way to wake you up in the morning and helps decrease muscle tension that can build up from sitting for hours on end. And it's perfect all you truckers that can be a tiny bit grumpy in the mornings.
  • Slowly cut out fatty and fried foods from your diet. If you are finding it hard to transition to healthier food, don't worry it's not something that can be rushed. Start with eating healthier snack options, and then switch out fried foods for colorful wraps and salads. Creating a simple goal, like no fried food, is a perfect way to start.
Pet on the Road
Have you ever considered having a pet with you on the road? If you are out on the road alone all the time it can get a bit lonely and not a lot of people can really relate to your job problems. You need someone to talk to and get out that stress that has been building up during that 5 hour traffic jam, right? Having a pet with you on the road is great for your health, and not just mental health. They are great motivators to get you out and walking around, and you feel safer knowing your best friend is always with you. Dogs and cats make great travel companions and their are amazing pets in shelters all over the country that need a good home. I know there is a lucky dog just waiting for the chance to see the country with you and enjoy the fresh air.

Thank you so much for joining me this week. I love talking about all the positive things going on in the Trucking Industry. I have a big interview for next week's show, so be sure to come back for a visit. Remember my dearest Trucking Nation, you get what you give in this world, so try to be kind and enjoy the ride. I will talk to you soon - Misty Noel.
